Jagadhri (जगाधड़ी/ जगाधरी) is the name of a town and tahsil headquarter at Jagadhri in Yamunanagar district in Haryana. Its ancient name was Yugandhara (युगंधर).

History
Yugandhara (युगंधर) was name of a country mentioned by Panini in Ashtadhyayi (4.2.130).
It has been identified as modern Jagadhari in Haryana. [1][2]
युगंधर
युगंधर (AS, p.771): पाठांतर युवंधर. युगंधर नामक एक प्राचीन स्थान का उल्लेख महाभारत, वनपर्व में हुआ है- 'युगंधरे दधिप्राश्य उषित्वा चाच्युतस्थले तद्वद् भूतलये स्नात्वा सपुत्रावस्तुमर्हसि।' महाभारत, वनपर्व 129, 9. पाणिनि की 'अष्टाध्यायी' 4, 2, 130 में भी युगंधर का नामोउल्लेख है।
जगाधरी इतिहास
जगाधरी इलाका सन् 1832 ई० में रानी दयाकुंवरि के मरने पर सरकार ने जब्त कर लिया था। यह रानी सरदार भगवानसिंह की धर्मपत्नी थी। यह रियासत सब तरह से धन-धान्य से पूर्ण थी। (जाट इतिहास:ठाकुर देशराज, पृष्ठ-513)

Virata Parva, Mahabharata/ Book IV Chapter 1 mentions countries surrounding the kingdom of the Kurus. Yugandhara (युगन्धर) city is mentioned in Mahabharata verse (IV.1.9). [4].... The city suggested to spend the thirteenth year, which are beautiful and abounding in corn, such as Panchala, Chedi, Matsya, Surasena, Pattachchara, Dasarna, Navarashtra, Malla, Shalva, Yugandhara, Saurashtra, Avanti, and the spacious Kuntirashtra.
Bhisma Parva, Mahabharata/Book VI Chapter 10 describes geography and provinces of Bharatavarsha. Yugandhara (युगन्धर) city is mentioned in Mahabharata verse (VI.10.40).[5]...the Panchalas, the Kausikas, the Ekaprishthas, Yugandharas; the Saudhas, the Madra, Bhujingas, the Kashyas, and the further-Kashyas;

Karna Parva/Mahabharata Book VIII Chapter 30 gives description blaming the Vahikas and Madrakas. ...Yugandhara (युगन्धर) city is mentioned in Mahabharata verse (VIII.30.40).[6]....The Aratta-Vahikas that are steeped in ignorance, should be avoided. Verse (VIII.30.42).[7] ....'How can one go to heaven, having drunk milk in the town called Yugandhara, and resided in the place called Achyutasthala, and bathed in the spot called Bhutilaya?
वीरमत्स्य
वीरमत्स्य (AS, p.867): 'सरस्वतीं च गंगा च युग्मेन प्रतिपद्य च, उत्तरान् वीरमत्स्यानां भारुंडं प्राविशद्वनम्'. वाल्मीकि रामायण, अयोध्याकाण्ड 71,5. वीरमत्स्य नामक एक प्राचीन जनपद भरत को केकय देश से अयोध्या आते समय सरस्वती और गंगा नदियों के समीप मिला था। गंगा नदी संभवतः सरस्वती की कोई सहायक नदी हो सकती है, क्योंकि भागीरथी गंगा को भरत ने यमुना पार करने के पश्चात् पार किया था, जो भूगोल की दृष्टि से ठीक भी है। भरत ने यमुना को वीरमत्स्य पहुंचने के पश्चात् पार किया था- 'यमुना प्राप्य संतीर्णो बलमाश्वासयत्तदा।' (वाल्मीकि रामायण, अयोध्याकाण्ड 71,6). इस प्रकार वीरमत्स्य जनपद की स्थिति यमुना की स्थिति के पश्चिम की ओर पूर्वी पंजाब में माननी चाहिए। संभवतः वीरमत्स्य में वर्तमान जगाधरी का ज़िला या इसका कोई भाग सम्मिलित रहा होगा।[8]
