Bisu (बिसु)/(बिसू)[1] Bissu (बिस्सु) Vissu (विस्सु) Vishu (विशु) Bishu (बिशु) is gotra found in Rajasthan. Bisudi clan is found in Afghanistan.[2]
Origin
They are said to be originated from Rigvedic Tribe Visanins (विषाणिन).
History
Bhim Singh Dahiya mentions some Rigvedic tribes. Vissu is mentioned as Visanin (विषाणिन)[3]. They are the Vissu of today and they live in the area where river Sarasvati (Ghaggar) was lost in the Thar desert.
H. W. Bellew writes that Pissuroi by Strabo, I recognise in the existing Besudi or Bisudi.[4]
Bisudi — the Pissuroi of Strabo, before noticed — inhabit the Bisud district west of Pughman range from Kabul to Bamian, and are reckoned at about forty thousand families, all Shia' in religion. They are in numerous subdivisions, the chief being : — Babali, Burjagae, Daulatpa, Dihkan, Darghan, Darvesh, Jhalak, Jangzae, Sargae, Sokpa, etc.
There is another district called Bisud in the Jalalabad valley, between the junction of the Kunar and Kabul rivers ; but no Hazarah are now found there. [5]
Bisudi claim descent from the brothers Satuk Kamar and Satuk Sokpa. Of these names, Satuk is a Turki title of respect, equivalent to our " Mister", and corresponds with the Persian Khwajah, which means "gentleman," " merchant," etc. Kamar is the name of a Skythian tribe, which is not uncommon in Afghanistan, and appears to have been early incorporated with the Rajput of Saurashtra, where it was afterwards changed to Jetwa, according to Tod. [6]
Hukum Singh Panwar (Pauria)[7] writes.... O.P. Bhardwaj locates two more tribes named Mujavats (Munjavats) and Mahavrisas, the former occupying 'the lower part of the narrowing doab of the Rigvedic rivers Saraswati & Drsadvati extending down to their confluence, and the latter lying beyond Vinasana', the place where Saraswati is said to have disappeared (Bhardwaj, 1986, pp. 203-66). The Munjavats, according to him, derived their name from 'munja' (Saccarum munja), a kind of grass which grew in abundance in that region. The Mahavrsas are probably represented by the tribe of the Visanins. Almost all the earlier writers located these people in the lands of the Gandhara & Balhikas in the north. Mr. Bhardwaj, in our opinion, is the first scholar who successfully discounted their findings and correctly placed the two tribes.
Villages founded by Bisu clan
- Bisoo Kalan (बिसू कलां) - village in Sheo Tahsil of Barmer district in Rajasthan.
- Bisoo Khurd (बिसू खुर्द) - village in Sheo Tahsil of Barmer district in Rajasthan.
Maratha Jat connections
Ranmal Singh pointed out Maratha Jat connections. Some of the Maratha clans evolved from Jat clans as under:
- Holkar - From Haga Jat clan
- Sindia - From Sindhu Jat clan
- Gayakwar - From Gawar Jat clan
- Bhosle - From Bisu Jat clan
- Pawar - From Panwar/Parmar Jat clan
This is based on oral History and needs Genealogical research to establish any Jat-Maratha Connection.
