Malhan
Malhan (मल्हान), Dhanda (ढांडा)[1] [2] Malhan (माल्हान)[3] is a great Jat gotra found in Haryana and Rajasthan. Malhan's are spread in Western Uttar Pradesh , Punjab and Pakistan.
Origin
Jat Gotras Namesake
- Malhan (Jat clan) = Malhana (मल्हण) is mentioned in Verse.23 of Bilaigarh Plates of Prithvideva II Kalchuri year 896 (1144 AD) as composer of these records.[4]
- Malhan (Jat clan) = Malhana (मल्हण) (L.34). Malhana (मल्हण) (L.34) is mentioned in Paragaon Plates Of Prithvideva II : (Kalachuri) Year 897 (=1146 AD). ....The inscription was composed by the poet Malhana (मल्हण) (L.34), the son of Subhankara. [5]...Paragaon is a village in tahsil and district Baloda Bazar in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
- Malhan (मल्हान) (Jat clan) = Malhanwada (मल्हानवाड़ा) is a village in Chhindwara tahsil in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.
In Mahabharata
Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 27 mentions clans subjugated by Bhima, which include Mallana in shloka 3:
- ततॊ गॊपाल कच्छं च सॊत्तमान अपि चॊत्तरान
- मल्लानाम अधिपं चैव पार्दिवं वयजयत परभुः (II.27.3)
History
The descendants of Massagetae (the great Jats) were said to be known as Malhan. [6] Dhanda गोत्र को ही झज्जर,सिरसा,दिल्ली में मल्हान गोत्र से जाना जाता है।

Notable persons of the clan
- Rakesh Singh Malhan (2nd Lt), Ashok Chakra (posthumous), (18.09.1970 - 05.12.1992) became martyr of militancy on 05.12.1992 at village Pader Pora of Shopian tahsil in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir fighting with militants. Unit: 22 Grenadiers Regiment. He was born at Chandigarh and originally belonged to village Subana in Jhajjar district Jhajjar of Haryana.
- Hon. Capt (Risaldar) Jai Lal (Malhan) - Victoria Cross award in the Second World War.
- Sunita Malhan - Rani Laxmi Bai Award winner
