Potalia (पोटलिया) Potaliya (पोटलिया) Potliya (पोटलिया) Potal (पोटल)Potal (पोतल) Potalia (पोतलिया) Pautal (पौटल)/Pautaliya (पौटलिया)/Pautaliya (पौटालिया) is a gotra of Jats living in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.

Origin

• Podalia or Potamia is an Ancient Lycian city in Antalya Province in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Arycandos River flows through it. Potaka (पॊतक) was a Nagavanshi King - Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Book I Chapter 31 mentions the names of Chief Nagas...Potaka is listed in verse (I.31.7)....Nila, Anila, Kalmasha, Shabala, Aryaka, Adika, Shala, Potaka,.. Potaka probably gave name to the place.

• कुछ गोत्रों का प्रचलन पशु, पक्षियों के नाम पर हुआ है. सांप से पोटलिया जाट गोत्र प्रचलित होना माना जाता है.

History

The Buddhist text Mahagovinda Suttanta mentions about a ruler of Assaka, Brahmadatta who ruled from Potali or Podana, which now lies in the Nandura Tehsil of Buldhana district in Maharashtra.

B S Dahiya writes: A sanskrit inscription from Kashmir mentions a king styled as Potala Deva Shahi, alias Nava Surendraditya Nandin. Here Potal is the clan name of this unknown Jat King; Deva Shahi is the usual title taken by all the Jat Kings. It is the same as the Devaputra Shahi of Kaswan Jats, and the title of Allahabad Pillar Inscription. Potals are also mentioned by Varahamihira, alongwith 'Jatasura' (Jat+Asura), Chhinas, Bhallas etc.

The word Kakanadabota (काकनादबोट) has been mentioned in two Gupta inscriptions: (No. 5, L. 1; No.23, L.2) :

Sanchi Inscription of Chandragupta II (No. 5, L. 1) mentions about community of the faithful in the holy great vihâra of Kâkanâdabôta.

Sanchi Stone Inscription of Kumaragupta I (450-451 CE) (No.23, L.2) mentions about the holy great vihâra of Kâkanâdabôta.

In both the inscriptions, we find reference to a grant to the Arya Samgha or the Community of the faithful, at the great Vihara, or Buddhist convent of Kakanadabota, 700 for the purpose of feeding mendicants and maintaining lamps.

D.C. Sircar takes 'Kakanadabota' to be the old name of Sanchi. Fleet is of the view that the Kakanadabota convent is the Great Stupa itself. According to him the word Bota is another form of Pota (पोट) which means 'the foundation of a house'. Fleet further writes that the name 'Kakanada' lit. 'the noise of the crow' was the ancient name of Sanchi it self which is proved by its occurrence in two inscriptions in Mauryan characters found at Sanchi.

Balokshi = Baluchistan

Balokshi Avadana (बालोक्षी अवदान): There were four stupas at Pashana (पाषाण). The Lord erected a fifth one himself. At Balokshi (बालोक्षी) (Baluchistan) he induced a rich banker to erect a stupa, celebrated afterward a Balokshiya (बालोक्षीय) stupa. The Lord converted Dambara, the Yaksha of village village Dambara (दंबर) and Mallika (मल्लिका), a Chandali of Bhandaladrama (भण्डालग्राम). At Patala (पाटल) he made Potala (पोटल), a follower of his creed, to erect a splendid stupa on his hair and nails. The Lord said to Indra a king of Millinda will erect a stupa at Patala (पाटल).

इतिहास

जिला चूरू के वीर बिग्गामल जी डूडी ने गायों की रक्षा के लिए अपने प्राण न्योछावर कर दिए । पोटी गाँव के पोटलिया गोत्र के जाटों की लड़की अपने घर चरखा कात रही थी । बिग्गामल जी घोड़ी पर सवार थे और रास्ते में इस लड़की से पानी माँगा । लड़की ने जवाब दिया तुम क्या मेरी खेदियोड़ी मोड़ देगा अर्थात मेरी गायें राठ ले गए हैं उनको वापस ला दोगे ? बिग्गाजी ने कहा कि गायें लाने में मर गया तो क्या सती हो जावोगी । लड़की ने जवाब दिया यह तो वक्त ही बताएगा । बिग्गामल जी बिना पानी पिए ही राठों के पीछे हो लिए । वहां पर भिडंत हुई । गाये तो छुड़ाली लेकिन बिग्गामल जी शहीद हो गए । काफी देर इंतजार के बाद वह लड़की पानी का गुणिया भरकर साथ में कुत्ता लेकर गयी । आगे जाकर देखा तो बिग्गाजी मृत मिले । वह लड़की उन पर कुंवारी सती हो गयी । यह स्थान पोटी से उत्तर-पूर्वी कोने पर स्थित है जहाँ मंदिर बना है । यहाँ लोग दाद के इलाज की मन्नत मांगने जाते हैं । विश्वास है कि यहाँ पूजा करने से दाद अच्छे हो जाते हैं ।
