History
Bachchh is a very common name of Jat group in Multan, Pakistan. Dr. Tugania informs that Bachchhs is a name used by Chauhan Jats in Haryana in one or two districts also where they populate several villages. Bacchs is a variant of Vacchs/Vats. Their simultaneous existence in two different but related parts and that too Jats points to the fact that Vacch/Vats was a common Jat gotra, which is still under use.[12]
H.A. Rose[13] writes that Bachhal (बछल), a tribe of Jats, found in pargana Bhirug. Naringarh tahsil, Ambala : descended from a Taoni.
In 8th generation of Prithvi Raj, Raja Anandpal’s descendant Bachhal came from Bhirani in Rajasthan to Litani (Hisar) in 1387 AD and after staying one night over here made his permanent settlement at Danauda (Jind).
Dadhimati Inscription of Dhruhalana of Gupta Year 289 (608 AD) mentions names and gotra-s of the donors with their father's names and the amount contributed by each. The name of donor in Line 1 is:
Here Vachchh (वच्छ) - It is mentioned as Gotra of Avighnanaga. Its sanskrit version is Vatsa (वत्स) which is also the Gotra of Chauhans. This also indicates Nagavanshi linkages of Chauhans.
