Jat Places Namesake

Jat Gotra from Maroth

  • Mitharwal (मिठारवाल)- Mitharwal (मिठारवाल) Mitharwar (मिठारवाड़) gotra of Jats originated from place called Maroth (मारौठ). [4]

History

Rao Kailan, Bhatti Chief had established his authority over nine castles, heads of districts, viz., Asini Kot or Aswini-kote, Beekumpoor, Marote, Poogul, Deorawul, Kerore (twenty-two coss, or about forty miles, from Bahawalpur), Guman, Bahun, Nadno, and Matailoh, on the Indus. [5]

During the rule of Chauhan Dynasties, Of people who agreed and supported Vigraharaja IV's policy and cooperated fully with him special mention might be made of his maternal uncle, Simhabala, the Johiya chief of Marukotta at least from V. 1217 to V. 1232. (=1160-1175 AD) [6]

Maroth is associated with the history of Dahiya and Karwasra Jat clans. Karwasra gotra gets name from their most prominent ruler Karhwa Rao.[7] A rock inscription inscribed by his grandson was found in village Mangalana (tahsil-Parbatsar, Nagaur) district of Maroth in Jodhpur princely state, in which they have been called as Dahiyas. It was inscribed in 1215 AD and has been referred to in the book 'Indians in the Cauvery' on pages 87 and 88.

Jats of Karwasra, Karwa, Bhagasra and Dahiya gotras are considered as brothers and marriages are not allowed among each of these gotras.

According to Thakur Deshraj [8]Kulhari is a branch of Johiya Jats, who ruled in Marwar area in 11-12th century. Bahipal was their king and Kot-Marot was their capital. There was a fort also at Kot-Marot. Bahipal had a war with the subedar of Hisar in which he lost his kingdom. Bahipal moved to Kathod (कठोद) and established a new kingdom there. Kathod is about 22 km from Ajmer. The descendants of Bahipal constructed a fort at Koliya.

James Tod writes that Bhatti Chief Rao Lakhar was the contemporary of Kanardeo Sonigara, whose life was saved by his (Lakhar's) wife's knowledge of omens. Lakhur was ruled by this Rani, who was of the Soda tribe. She invited her brethren from Amarkot ; but the madman, her husband, put them to death, and threw their bodies over the walls. He was allowed to rule four years, and was then replaced by his son, Punpal. This prince was of a temper so violent that the nobles dethroned him, and recalled the exiled Jaitsi from Gujarat. Punpal had a residence assigned him in a remote quarter of the state. He had a son, Lakamsi, who had a son called Rao Raningdeo, who by a stratagem pointed out by a Khurl Rajpoot, took Maroth from the Johyas, and Poogal from the Thories, whose chief, styled Rao, he made captive ; and in Poogal he settled his family. [9]

James Tod writes that When the sons of Bhatti Rao Raningdeo became converts to Islam, in order to avenge their father's feud with the Rathore prince of Nagore, they forfeited their inheritance of Poogul and Marot, and thenceforward mixed with the Abhoria Bhattis, and their descendants are termed Momun Musalman Bhutti. [10]

On this event, Kailan, the third son of the Rawal Kehar II, took possession of the forfeited lands, and besides Beekampur, regained Deorawul, which had been conquered by their ancient foes, the Dahya Rajputs.[11]

Dasharatha Sharma[12] writes....[p.123]: Hammira was the last and most famous of the Chauhans of Ranthambhor. Hammira had ascended the throne in V.1339. Not very long after this, he started, according to the Hammiramahakavya, on a digvijaya or conquest of all the quarters. He first defeated Ajuna, the ruler of Bhamarasa, and then exacted tribute from the fort of Mandalakrita (मण्डलकृत) or Mandalgarh. Striking southwards from here, he reached Ujjayini and Dhara and defeated the Paramara ruler Bhoja. From here he turned northwards, and reached home passing through Chittor, Abu, Vardhanapura (वर्धनपुर) (Badnore), Changa (चंगा) (fortress of the mers still retains old name), Pushkar, Maharashtra (Marot), Sakambhari, Khandilla (खंडिल्ल) (Khandela), Champa (चम्पा) (Chaksu), and Karkarala (कर्कराला) (Karkaralagiri of the Balvan Inscription == Karauli), at the last of which places he received the homage of the ruler of Tribhuvanagiri (Tahangarh).

[p.124]: after came a Koti-yajna which was very much like the asvamedha of Samudragupta. It was under the direction of his purohita Vishvarupa. This digvijaya, or rather a number of raids from time to time magnified into one systematic digvijaya (Balvan Inscription, EI, XIX, pp.49 ff) by Nayachandra, took place before V. 1345 (c. 1288 A.D.). The Balvan inscription of the year mentions the performance of not only one but two Kotiyagna by Hammira and describes the capture of the elephant force of Arjuna, the ruler of Malwa, a kingdom the condition of which was indeed bad enough to invite interference from all sides.
