Miher/Meherya clan is found in Afghanistan.[9]

Origin

Mehria is very old gotra. Following origins are suggested by various authors:

  • They get name from Mahi Heraka (महि हेरक), a title of Revenue Minister in the ancient tribe of Shivis. [10]
  • Mairiha (मैरिहा) was a clan of Mahabharata period. People who came from Morea (मोरिया) in Greece were known as Mairiha. [14] Morea was the name of the Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece during the Middle Ages and the early modern period.[15]

History

Ram Swarup Joon[17] writes In the Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 48, while describing various Kings who attended a ceremony in the Durbar (court) of Maharaja Yudhisthira, seventeen names are mentioned which are today found as Jat gotras. These are Malhia, Mylaw, Sindhar, Gandhar, Mahity, Mahe, Savi, Bath, Dharan, Virk, Dard, Shaly, Matash, Kukar (Khokar) Kak, Takshak, Sand, Bahik (Bathi) Bije (Bijenia), Andhra, Sorashtra (Rathi) Mann, Ar, Sohat, Kukat, Othiwal (Othval).

Ram Swarup Joon[18] writes about Mahe, Mahi, Mehiwal, Meheria, Mahit: These are also very old gotras. In the 8th generation of the Mirhas there lived a king called Mahit. His descendants were called Mahi, Mahe. In about the first century AD, Darunpur, some where near Sujangarh, was the capital of Mahe Kings.
