Duhan (दुहन)[1] [2] Duhan/Doohan (दूहन) Duhoon (दूहून)/(दूहूण) [3]Doon (दूण)[4] is gotra of Jats found in Delhi Haryana , Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. They were supporters of Chauhan Confederacy.

Origin

  • Gotra may have poriginated from Drughana (द्रुघण),a place name mentioned by Panini under Arihanadi (अरीहणादि) (4.2.80.1) group. [5]
  • Surada (सूरद) was an ancient Jat King in the ancestry of Sinsinwar rulers of Bharatpur at S.No. 113.[6] Surada's second son was Dahana (दहन) from whom descended the Jat Gotra Duhan. [7]

History

DUHANS are here since the Vedic period. Vedic period is considered to be the period when the four Vedas were written.

DUHAN is the name of a vedic period river and the people living on its bank also came to be known as DUHANS. This river still flows in Haryana though now its size is reduced to a small stream. With this, I request every DUHAN to become aware of our precious culture, be proud of it, respect it and take every single step to preserve it.
