Kharb
Kharb (खर्ब) Kharub (खरब)[1] Kharav (खरव)[2] Kharab (खरब)[3]/Kharap (खरप)[4] Karb (कर्ब) [5] gotra Jats are found in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. They were supporters of Tomar Confederacy. [6][7][8]
Origin
Jat Gotras Namesake
- Kharab (Jat clan) = Kharapallana. Kharapallana was an Indo-Scythian Northern Satrap who ruled around c. 130 CE.
- Kharab (Jat clan) = Kharab (Bk), Kharab (Kh) are villages in Akola Taluka of Akola in Maharashtra.
- Kharab (Jat clan) = Kharab Dhore, Kharab Naole, Kharbadi are villages in Murtijapur Taluka of Akola in Maharashtra.
History
Karna Parva/Mahabharata Book VIII Chapter 4 mentions that prince of Rakshasas, viz., Alayudha and Kharabandhura hath been despatched to Yama's abode by Ghatotkacha exerting himself with great prowess. [9]
Bhim Singh Dahiya mentions about Rigvedic Tribe - Krivi: (RV VIII/20/24; VIII/22/12). These people are mentioned as Kravya in Sat.Br. (Xlll/5/4.7). They are to be identified with the Kharab clan of the Jats. They are also to be identified with the Khalabes of West Asian history, who gave their name to Chalybes on the mouth of Euphrates river. [10]
They are mentioned in the Allahabad Stone Pillar Inscription of Samudragupta (A.D. 335-76) as Kharaparikas. The Padma Purana calls them as Malecchas, which shows that they are treated as foreigners. [11] [12]
We find mention of Kharbad clan in an Inscription of 1444 AD found at Garhbor village in Kumbhalgarh tahsil of Rajsamand district in Rajasthan. Kharwad (खरवड़) seems to be a derivative of Kharb. This inscription mentions names of four persons of this clan Mahipal, His son Laxman and Laxman's wife Kshimini and their son Jhanjha.
According to Hukum Singh Panwar (Pauria), The Khar or Kher or Kharata or Khareta and possibly the Kharb Jats are the descendants of the Saka Ksharatas mentioned in the Indian Epigraphs or the Karatai Scythians.[13]
Sub divisions of Tunwar
Bhim Singh Dahiya[14] provides us list of Jat clans who were supporters of the Tunwar when they gained political ascendancy. The Karb clan supported the ascendant clan Tunwar and became part of a political confederacy.[15]
