Kohar कोहर is a gotra of jats Kuhad (कुहाड) Kuhar (कुहाड़), Kuol (कुओल)Kuhadia (कुहाडिया) Koyam (कोयम) Kuharia (कुहाड़िया) / Kuhar (कुहाड़) Kohar (कोहाड़) Gotra Jats are found in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. They were supporters of Bhati Confederacy.

Origin

• These people get this gotra name after their apical ancestor Nagavanshi named Kuhara (कुहाड़)

• Kuhad Gotra derives name from (कुहाड़) (an Axe).

History

Ram Swarup Joon writes that...Kuharh, Kalhari, Khailari, Khalu and Kalhur are one and the same. All of the are descendants of Rao Kallur and their names are a little different because they settled down in different places.

Dr Pema Ram writes that after the invasion of Alexander in 326 BC, the Jats of Sindh and Punjab migrated to Rajasthan. They built tanks, wells and Bawadis near their habitations. The tribes migrated were: Shivis, Yaudheyas, Malavas, Madras etc. The Shivi tribe which came from Ravi and Beas Rivers founded towns like Sheo, Sojat, Siwana, Shergarh, Shivganj etc. This area was adjoining to Sindh and mainly inhabited by Jats. The descendants of Yaudheyas in Rajasthan are: Kulhari, Kuhad, Mahla, Mahil, Khichar etc.

Thakur Deshraj while discussing Bhatis of Bhatner writes with reference to writer Munshi Jwalasahay in 'Wakaye Rajputana' that there are large number of traces of ruins near Hakra River. Village Dhandhusar (धांधूसर) was a well developed city at the time of Invasion of Alexander. It is said that their chieftains had good palaces, people were having number of ponds and sufficient land was left for cattle grazing. They lost their Kingdoms during reign of Akbar but still they were in possession of large tracts of land. In 18th century Kuhadwas the area was ruled by Kuhad Singh and his son Panne Singh. Later Bhatis of Kuhadsar were known as Kuhads. Kunwar Panne Singh was a Public Servant of Shekhawati and Kuhad ruler Pannesingh was 15 generations earlier to him. Like Kuhads, the Dular Bhatis also migrated from Punjab and established a small state here. The Bard records tell us they occupied land near Gorir and Singhana.

यह उनकी बहुत ही छोटी रियासत थी। आगे चलकर कुहाड़सर के भाटी कुहाड़ नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुए। शेखावाटी के लोग-सेवक कुंवर पन्नेसिंह जी से कुहाड़ का शासक पन्नेसिंह 15 पीढ़ी पहले हुआ था। कुहाड़ों की भांति पंजाब से सरककर दूलड़ भाटियों ने भी एक छोटा-सा राज्य स्थापित कर रखा था। मालवा में भी वे चुप नहीं बैठे रहे। भूमि पर कब्जा करके अपने प्रभुत्व को जमाने का अधिकार तो उन्होंने अब तक नहीं छोड़ा है। भाट लोगों की शाखा ने गोरीर और सिंधाना के निकट की भूमि पर प्रभुत्व स्थापित किया ऐसा भी भाट-ग्रन्थों में वर्णन मिलता है।

[पृ.375]: राज्य करते रहे। कई पीढ़ी बाद इसी वंश में जगदीश जी नाम के सरदार के कुहाड़ नाम का पुत्र हुआ। उसने मारवाड़ में कुहाड़सर नामक गांव बसाया। इस वंश के तीसरी चौथी पीढ़ी में पैदा होने वाले कान्हड़ ने सागवा को आबाद किया। उसके पुत्र उदलसिंह ने संवत 1821 (1764 ई.) में कुहाड़वास को आबाद किया। कुहाड़वास के भजूराम कुहाड़ ने संवत 1890 (1833 ई.) नरहड़ में आबाद की। भनूराम का दलसुख हुआ। दलसुख के गणेशराम और जालूराम दो पुत्र हुए। जलूराम बचपन में ही अपने भाई के साथ देवरोड़ में आ गए। कुंवर पन्नेसिंह इन्हीं जालूराम के तृतीय पुत्र थे। कुँवर पन्नेसिंह जी का जन्म संवत 1959 विक्रमी (1902 ई.) के चेत्र में कृष्णा एकादशी को हुआ था।

ठाकुर देशराज ने लिखा है .... यदुवंश में एक गज हुआ है। जैन पुराणों के अनुसार गज कृष्ण का ही पुत्र था। उसके साथियों ने गजनी को आबाद किया। भाटी, गढ़वाल, कुहाड़, मान, दलाल वगैरह जाटों के कई खानदान गढ गजनी से लौटे हुए हैं।
