Mention of Jat

  • जाटली jāṭlī: The plant Bignonia suaveolens is known by this name. This plant is also known as Pāṭali which gives name to Pāṭaliputra (पाटलिपुत्र), modern-day Patna, was a city in ancient India, originally built by Ajatashatru in 490 BC as a small fort (Pāṭaligrama) near the River Ganges, and later the capital of the ancient Mahājanapadas kingdom of Magadha. Junagadh Rock Inscription of Rudradaman Line 8 also refers Yavana king Tushaspha while governing the fort. Here Yavana is sanskritized for Joon.
