They were supporters of Tomar Confederacy. They were supporters of Saroya Confederacy.

History

Bhim Singh Dahiya writes.... It is important to note that deliberate and systematic efforts were made to assimilate the Jats into Brahmanical fold on their arrival in India as conquerors. The famous Vrata Stomas were specifically prescribed for Indianisation of the foreigner Sakas. As mentioned by Agarwala these Stomas were very easy to perform and seem to be a mere formality, so that the foreigners who became overlords of the country may be Hinduised under priestly power. It was under these processes that the Solgis were called Suliks/Saulikas in the Puranas, etc. The clan name Pawar was similarly changed into Parmar but the most important clan which was thus changed was the Sahrawat. The process under which the Persian title "Satrap" was Sanskritised into "Ksatrapa," was applied to Sahrawat also and this important clan of the Jats was written as Ksaharat (क्षहरात). The well known western Satraps of Saurastra, Kathiawar, Gujrat, Ujjain, Mathura, etc. belonged to this clan. The great Satraps, Chaṣṭan and Rudradaman belonged to the Sahrawat clan of the Jats. Mr Bansi Lal, former Defence Minister of India belongs to this clan. ²⁰⁸. It is well known to the historians that this clan of the Jats was ruling western central India for about 500 years and it was another Jat clan, namely, Dharan, misnamed as Guptas, who under Chandragupta II, Vikramaditya, incorporated these states under central rule.

Kśaharāt : The first letter in both the words Satrap and Saharavat is 'S' and when these words became common in India, both these words were Sanskritised by changing the initial 'S' into 'Ksa' (ar). Therefore the clan name was written as Kśaharāta. But it is a matter of gratification that the Jats have retained almost all their clan names in their original form, and Saharavat is still written and spoken as such. The suffix, wat, is only partly Indianised and it may be original also. We find that another Jat clan is called Gurlet in Central Asia, whereas it is called Gurlawat in India. The Kśaharāt and Sahrawat difference can be explained on this analogy. It is worth noting that E.J. Rapson while mentioning the coins of Satrap Bhumaka, writes both these words with an initial 'Ch' in Kharoshhi script and with an initial 'Ksa' in the Brahmi script.²⁰⁹ A reference to Sten Konow's article will be illuminating. First of all, Konow mentions that the Kusanas were in reality Sakas. While stating this Konow seems to have been dragged into the unnecessary controversy about the difference between the Sakas, Kushanas, Yue-che, etc.²¹⁰ This controversy is quite futile and needless. Ram Swarup Joon writes about Rawat, Sahrawat, Rae (Tanwar): Rai, Rao, Rawat and Sahrawat were only titles used by Tanwar sardars which later began to be used as gotras. The Rawat Jats have 800 villages in district Gurgaon and 8 villages in district Aligarh. The capital of Sahrawats was Mahipalpur near Delhi where a very old house is still called a palace. 12 villages near Mehrauli belong to the Sahrawat Jats. In Haryana they are found in Kair, Dipalpur, Bhadani, Kultana and other villages, and some are found in district Meerut also.

These variants of this gotra were only titles used by Tanwar sardars which later began to be used as Gotras. The Rawat Jats have 800 villages in district Gurgaon and 8 villages in district Aligarh. Sarawat are descendants of Virpurusha Shahjad Singh who was body guard of Punjab Keshari Maharaja Ranjit Singh (Punjab). of Delhi during Prithviraj Chauhan to assist him in wars against Mohammad Gauri, after others had deserted him. After Prithviraj Chauhan's defeat most of them chose to settle down in areas around Mehrauli (mainly Mahipalpur) where lies their roots, the village was named Mahipalpur after there leader Mahipal Jat. Other villages in Delhi and Haryana/Rajasthan, UP, Uttarakhand and MP are mainly offshoots of Mahipalpur. It is one of the biggest gotra in jats.

Sub divisions of Saroya

Bhim Singh Dahiya provides us list of Jat clans who were supporters of the Saroya when they gained political ascendancy. The Sarawat clan supported the ascendant clan Saroya and became part of a political confederacy.

It is Branch of Tomars which include - 1. Thenua 2. Chebuk, 3. Rawat, 4. Sahrawat 5. Rao 6. Salkalan, 7. Janghara, 8. Bhind Tomar, 9. Antil 10. Jaiswal, 11. Garhwal.

सहरावत गोत्र का इतिहास

दलीप सिंह अहलावत ने लिखा है कि सहरावत जाट गोत्र चन्द्रवंशी तंवर या तोमर जाट वंश की शाखा है। दिल्ली के समीप महरौली, महीपालपुर, नांगल, मंगलपुर, दरयापुर, पालम, महरमनगर, कैर, बवाना, बाजितपुर, बकरवारा, गुड़गांव में दयालपुर, रोहतक में कुलताना, भैसरू खुर्द, भदानी (1/2), गोवर्धन के पास नगला, राधिका, भरतपुर में जटौली, हिसार में भगान, नाथवास, खरड़, नाणा, मेरठ में लिसाढी, जगेंठी, डूंगर ,कौल, गाजियाबाद मे सदरपुर,जलालाबाद, मनौटा, शामली मे अलीपुर, सहारनपुर मे टिकरौल, मुजफ्फरनगर में भोकरहेड़ी, बिटावदा,मठेडी, टिस्सा, यूसुफपुर , नौना , जडौदा नारा, जिला मुरादाबाद में पानौवाले, ओकरमाढ़ी, अलीनगर, रसूलपुर, हुमायूपुर, सिढावलीद, गुरसरी, अड़ौला, सौजनी, तिगरी आदि गांव सहरावत जाटों के हैं।

इस वंश में चौ० शहजादसिंह पंजाबकेसरी महाराजा रणजीतसिंह का अंगरक्षक वीर योद्धा था। उसके वंशज भोकरहेड़ी में रहते हैं। सहरावत जाटों की राजधानी महीपालपुर रही। वहां पर एक पुरानी इमारत महल के नाम से है। जिला करनाल में गांव करस सहरावत जाटों का है।

भलेराम बेनीवाल के अनुसार सहरावत जाटों का चंद्रवंशी गोत्र है. यह तंवर/तोमर क्षत्रिय जाट वंश शाखा का गोत्र है. सहरावत गोत्र के पूर्व वंशज तुर्वशु का शासन आज के पाकिस्तान, अफगानिस्तान, सूडान, मिस्र, लीबिया, अल्जीरिया, ईरान, ईराक, तुर्की, यूनान आदि में था. यह एक क्षत्रिय संघ का प्राचीन गोत्र है. इसी से सम्बंधित तंवर/तोमर ने दिल्ली को बसाया व वहां पर अपना राज्य कायम किया. यह तंवर/तोमर का सहयोगी गोत्र होने से दिल्ली के समीप महरौली, महिपालपुर, नागल, बूआना, मंगलपुर, दरियामपुर, पालम, महानगर, कैर, भलस्वा, बभाम, वाजिदपुर, बकरवाड़ा, आदि इस गोत्र के गाँव हैं. सहरावत गोत्र के सहयोग से ही तंवर/तोमर दिल्ली पर राज्य कायम कर सके थे. सहरावत लोगों ने शुरू में अपनी राजधानी महिपालपुर बनाई थी.

ठाकुर देशराज के अनुसार देहली प्रदेश में सहरावत जाट एक समय इतने प्रसिद्ध थे कि उनके सरदार ने पृथ्वीराज के युद्ध में जाने पर देहली के आसपास कब्ज़ा कर लिया था.

The main Village of Sehrawats in Haryana are Kharar Alipur, Niyana ,Bhanshru Khurd, Nayat/Niat (न्यात), Dipalpur, Bhadaani, Kultana Ajaib, Mokhra, Kila Jaffargarh, (Khudali). Some villages are near Faridabad. Some Villages are there in Sirsa Distt. and some villages near Tauru (Sehrawats in Tauru are basically from the villages of Delhi; namely Mahipalpur, Nangal Dewat etc. who migrated there after land acquisition in Delhi).

One Interesting thing that i had noted about Sehrawat Villages or mix with other gotras They Normally prefer to reside in East Side of village.

There may be opposition also but this is something uncommon that has been found by some of us.
