Neemuch or Nimach (नीमच) is town and district in western Madhya Pradesh state, central India, located on a barren ridge.
History
Neemach stands for "North Eastern Military and Cavalry Headquarters." Formerly it was a large British cantonment of Gwalior princely state. The town in 1822 became the headquarters of the combined Rajputana–Malwa Political Agency and then of the Malwa Agency in 1895. It is a road junction and distribution centre for agricultural products in the area. Handloom weaving is the major industry here.

Jat Gotras Namesake
- Naga (नागा) (Jat clans) → Nagpura (नगपुरा) is a village in tahsil Manasa in Nimach district in Madhya Pradesh.
Jats in Neemach
Neemach and Mandsaur districts have a population of about 150000 Jats. Neemach town has about 250 families of Jats dwelling here. Mandsaur district has a rich Jat population in some villages. The Jats are classified in two categories here namely, Keje Jats and Meware Jats. They do not have marital relations with each other. In Mandsaur district there are about 78 villages with population of Keje Jats and rest are villages of Meware Jats. [2]
There are a number of villages in Neemach after the names of Jats e.g. Jat, Dayara, Luharia etc. Similarly Mandsaur also has villages after Jat gotras like Bailara, Muala etc.
I thought to study the distribution pattern of Jat Gotras in the Nimach district in Madhya Pradesh. There are no ready records or studies as such. So I took the membership list of Jats of Nimach district from Pariwarik Parichay Patrika - 2003 Published by Jila Jat Samaj, Nimach (M.P.). It gives details of members’ names, His gotra and his wife's gotra, age and education of each member in the family of Jats living in Nimach district. I had also discussion with President of Veer Tejaji Jat Samaj Samiti, Nimach, PIN-458441, Shri Balraj Sapedia (Phone-07423-222795) who was instrumental in publishing this smarika.
The two attributes Jat gotra and place were brought on excel file, tabulated and shorted out. There is an interesting result which gives which jat gotra is from which village. This table is available with me and if any member is interested it can be uploaded. The following table is an abstract of the detailed table that gives population of each gotra as out of total Jat members 1276 (644 families) members in the directory arranged in alphabetical order.
The Pariwarik Parichay Patrika - 2003 Published by Jila Jat Samaj, Nimach (M.P.) gives details of 644 Jat families who are members. They are from 252 gotras. The figure after gotra is the count out of 1276 from which we can roughly assess comparative population of that gotra in the district. The gotra list includes gotras of male head of the family and his wife. Here is the list:

Biggest Jat Gotras
The biggest Jat Gotras in the district are as under in the decreasing order with number of members out 1276 as under:

Some conclusions
- 138 Gotras are with only one count which indicates that these gotras are due to women marrying from out side far off places or some relatives get settled in these villages from far off places.
- The two largest Gotras Sanwar (83), Varaha 68 are found in this area only and not in north India.
- Many gotras are common with those of Rajasthan indicates there migration from Rajasthan over a very long period as the number of families have vast difference of population.
- Some gotras have influence of Gujarati language as a result 'S' becomes 'H' such as Siyak becomes Hiyak, Gotras Sidar becomes Hidar, Sehrawat becomes Herawat, Soran becomes Horan, Saran becomes Haran. This varaiation in gotras seem to be due to difference in the language.
- Many Gotras seem to be specific to this area only such as Sanwar, Varaha, Bathiyan, Fagar, Mundfod, Baraliya, Denihar, Dagolia, Eram, Far, Faras, Jatiyan, Lawas, Lunawat, Nisia, Pipalya, Rabdia, Sapedia, Thapor etc.
